Suresh Raina fails twice in Canada Super 60

Raina, representing Toronto Sixers, was dismissed for one against Brampton Blitz in the opening game of the 2025 Canada Super 60. He is one of the few Indians taking part in the competition, alongside Shikhar Dhawan and Piyush Chawla.

Batting first, Brampton posted 136-5 on the board, following a blistering 56* from James Vinces (25 balls). Martin Guptill and Will Smeed gave them a flying start at the top, with a 26-run stand in 13 deliveries, before Vince saw the team through to a competitive total.

In reply, Toronto’s openers Jason Roy (25 in 11) and Alex Hales (86* in 32) added 71 for the first wicket, before the former departed. In walked Raina, but he was unable to leave an impact, making a solitary run. Toronto ended up chasing the target with three balls to spare.

In the second game, too, he failed to get going. This time, his team was up against a stiffer target of 165, after USA’s Aaron Jones smashed 67* in just 15 deliveries, with eight sixes. Once again, Raina could only score one, leaving his side at 22-2 after two overs. Despite a 21-ball 60 from Alex Hales, Toronto Sixers could only manage 134-4, losing by 30 runs.

What has Raina’s career been like after retirement?

Raina retired from the IPL in September 2022, after going unsold in the player auction that year. It made him eligible to take part in global T20 franchises. Since then, he has played in various legends' tournaments, including the Legends League Cricket Masters, the Intercontinental Legends Championship and the Road Safety World Series. He also played for India in the World Championship of Legends earlier this year. He is making his T10 debut in the Canada Super 60.

Raina, one of the most successful batters in the IPL, scored 5,528 runs in the tournament at an average of 32.51 at a strike rate of 136.73, along with 39 fifties and one hundred. He was pivotal in CSK’s success, playing a role in three titles.

In international cricket, Raina was India's first batter to score a hundred in all three formats and was part of the 2011 World Cup winning team, where he played a particularly crucial role in the quarter-final and semi-final.
