Abhishek Sharma has further extended his lead at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings, moving to 929 rating points after another strong performance against New Zealand, and edging closer to the highest-ever mark recorded in the format.
The Indian opener’s current ranking points leave him just two points short of his career-best rating of 931, which he achieved during last year’s Asia Cup and remains the highest rating ever attained by a T20I batter. Abhishek has been in tremendous form in the format since making his debut in 2024, scoring 1,267 runs at 38.39. However, his strike rate of 195.22 stands out. It is the best by a batter with a minimum of 500 runs in the format.
In the ongoing New Zealand T20Is, the left-hander was out for a rare duck in the first T20I, but followed it up with a breathtaking 20-ball 68* in the second game, a knock that did not contain a single dot ball. It helped him jump up 15 spots in the ICC batting rankings, and he is 80 points away from second-placed Phil Salt.
India also have another presence inside the top five, with Tilak Varma holding on to the No.3 spot, with 781 points. Tilak is currently injured and is not taking part in the ongoing series.
Former No.1 batter Suryakumar Yadav has re-entered the top 10, climbing five spots to seventh following his unbeaten 57 in the third T20I in Guwahati, a knock that signalled his return to form ahead of the T20 World Cup. Yadav, who did not score a single fifty in 2025, has back-to-back half-centuries in the New Zealand series, also making 82* in the first match.
The bowling rankings continue to be led by Varun Chakravarthy, who has 787 points. The major shuffle in the top ten has been Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who jumped five spots to No.9. The bowling rankings also brought more positive movement for India, with Jasprit Bumrah rising four places to 13th after claiming three wickets against New Zealand in the same match.
In the all-rounders’ list, Hardik Pandya has moved up one place to third, while Shivam Dube has made one of the biggest jumps of the week, climbing six spots to 11th. Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza remains the top-ranked T20I all-rounder.
