Sri Lanka dropped a spot in the latest ICC men’s T20I rankings following the annual update, while world champions India remained at the top.

Sri Lanka drop below Bangladesh, India retain top spot

The annual ICC rankings update, for both men’s and women’s teams, is released in the month of May. For T20Is, matches played over the last year, since May 2025, in this case, are given a 100 per cent weightage, while 50 per cent weightage is reserved for the games played over the two years before that.

India won the T20 World Cup earlier this year, but their lead at the top, over second-placed England, went down from 14 to 13 points as the games played between May 2023 and May 2025 now carry only half the weightage. But they still sit pretty at the top, with England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa all retaining their spots in the top five.

Pakistan remained sixth, and the West Indies held onto the seventh spot, but Bangladesh and Sri Lanka swapped the next two spots. Sri Lanka, winners of the 2014 T20 World Cup, dropped to ninth in the table while Bangladesh jumped to eighth. Sri Lanka now only hold a one-point lead over tenth-placed Afghanistan.
