India registered a 19-run victory against Pakistan in the gold medal clash of the Asian Games. Here are the updated T20I men’s team rankings after the clash.
India raced off to a sublime start, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma adding 28 in the first two overs, before the former was dismissed by Saim Ayub for a nine-ball 15.
Abhishek’s quickfire 61, coupled with a Tilak Varma 51* off 22 balls, propelled India to a competitive 211-6.
In response, Pakistan were reduced to 39-3, but Saim Ayub (29) and Hasan Nawaz got together to stitch a rapid 87-run partnership, giving them a ray of hope. Nawaz was dismissed on the last ball of the match for a well-crafted 96 in 51 deliveries, as Pakistan fell 19 runs short of the gold medal.
Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube scalped two wickets each to keep Pakistan down to 192-6.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also faced off in the bronze medal match, with the latter winning by 63 runs.
