Australia seamer Annabel Sutherland has claimed the top spot in the ICC women’s T20I bowling rankings for the first time, ending Pakistan spinner Sadia Iqbal’s brief reign at No.1.
Annabel Sutherland crowned No.1 women's T20I bowler
Sutherland’s rise comes despite not featuring in any international matches over the past five months. The 23-year-old last played a T20I in March, when she picked up 4-35 against New Zealand, but benefited from Iqbal’s dip in form during Pakistan’s 2-1 series defeat to Ireland.
Sutherland made her T20I debut in 2020 and has claimed 40 wickets in 45 games so far. She moved up a spot in Tuesday’s ranking, maintaining her rating point of 736.
Iqbal, who managed only three wickets in the three matches, slipped to joint second alongside India’s Deepti Sharma following the Ireland series. The top five are rounded off by Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Bell. The only other bowler from England in the top ten is Charlie Dean, at joint-sixth with Georgia Wareham.
Ireland’s Orla Prendergast enters the top 20 for the first time
The Ireland-Pakistan series in Dublin proved particularly rewarding for Ireland’s Orla Prendergast, who was named Player of the Series after a standout all-round display. The 23-year-old was the highest run-scorer, making 144 runs at an average of 72. She also claimed four wickets with her medium pace, including 3-28 in the first T20I, which stalled Pakistan from chasing 143.
Her performance also pushed her to a career-best 19th among batters - a jump of eight places - and sixth among all-rounders, climbing three spots. She currently has 1,446 runs at 28.35 from 66 T20Is, along with 50 scalps at an average of 18.88.
For Pakistan, Muneeba Ali, who became just the eighth Full Member women’s batter with multiple T20I tons, improved to joint 32nd from 35th.
