India’s Smriti Mandhana has returned to the top of the ICC women’s ODI rankings for batters, reclaiming the No.1 position for the first time since February 2019.

Woolvardt's loss, Mandhana's gain

The updated rankings, released by the ICC on Tuesday (June 17), saw Mandhana rise to the summit after South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt dropped 19 rating points following modest returns in her recent outings against the West Indies, where she made 27 and 28. Wolvaardt is yet to score an ODI ton since June 2024.

Mandhana’s return to the top ends a gap of over six years since she last held the No.1 spot. Her recent form has been instrumental in this rise, highlighted by a century in the final of India’s tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa in Colombo, the 11th of her ODI career.

The left-hander, who was named Wisden’s Leading Woman Cricketer in the World for 2024, has made 1,260 runs since the start of last year at an average of 60. She also has six hundreds and five fifties in 21 games.

She is the only Indian in the top 10 of the ICC rankings, with Jemimah Rodrigues slotting in as the second-highest ranked batter at No.15 and Harmanpreet Kaur at No.16

Wolvaardt has now slipped to joint second in the rankings alongside England's Nat Sciver-Brunt. There was further movement among South Africa’s players, with Tazmin Brits climbing five places to 27th and Sune Luus jumping seven positions to 42nd.

West Indies duo Shemaine Campbelle and Qiana Joseph also made gains among ODI batters, moving up seven and 12 spots respectively, to 62nd and joint 67th.

Bowling charts: Afy Fletcher enters top 20

On the bowling charts, West Indies spinner Afy Fletcher rose four places to 19th after a four-wicket haul against South Africa at Cave Hill. This is the first time she has entered the top 20 in her 17-year-long career. Fletcher, who has played 88 ODIs, has picked up 108 wickets at an average of 24.30.

England's Sophie Ecclestone continues to lead the ODI bowling rankings.
