Cricket is about to take off in the United States of America this year, with the very first edition of Major League Cricket – the first professional T20 cricket competition in the United States – scheduled to be played from July 13-30 later this year.

The tournament will see six teams based in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Texas, and Washington DC fight it out in a single round-robin format over the course of 18 days and 19 games to be crowned champions of the United States.

The first step towards the construction of the squads for the teams will be taken today (March 19), as the Domestic Player Draft is scheduled to be held at the Space Center Houston, the official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

There will be more than 100 local cricketers to choose from, with each team having to pick nine. The overseas player signings will be done at a later date, with each team allowed a maximum of eight overseas signings.

The first game of the historic tournament will be played on July 13 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas.
