Australia won their seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title by defeating England in the final. Here is how their players fared throughout the tournament.
Beth Mooney - 9.5/10
M: 7 | 238 runs at 47.60, SR 143, HS: 74*, 3 fifties | Ct: 5
For a while, it seemed Mooney would finish another T20 World Cup final unbeaten (having top-scored with unbeaten knocks of 78 and 74 in her last two efforts). While that did not happen, the 49-ball 64 virtually decided that Australia would get their hands on the trophy. It also rounded off an excellent tournament for her.
Georgia Voll - 6/10
M: 7 | 130 runs at 21.67, SR: 141, HS: 45*
Voll never got that one big innings, but she scored at a brisk pace in her first World Cup. Replacing Alyssa Healy at the top is never easy, but she has shown glimpses of a great future.
Phoebe Litchfield - 8/10
M: 4 | 126 runs at 31.50, SR 142, HS: 50, 1 fifty
Litchfield started the World Cup with a dazzling half-century, missed a few games in the middle due to an injury, and rounded off the tournament with an excellent 48 in the final (a first, surprisingly, for an Australian who has been around since 2022).
Ellyse Perry - 9/10
M: 7 | 198 runs at 49.50, SR 133, HS: 71, 2 fifties | 4 wickets at 7.50, ec 6.00, BBI: 2-9
It might have been her (checkes notes) tenth T20 World Cup, but even at 35, Perry seems to be even more important to this all-conquering side than she used to be when she bowled more regularly. Both solid and dominant (and at times, invincible) in the middle overs, Perry also chipped in with four wickets.
Ash Gardner - 8/10
M: 6 | 150 runs at 50.00, SR 170, HS: 58, 2 fifties | 3 wickets at 40.33, ec 7.56, BBI: 2-13 | Ct: 4
Often the fire to Perry’s ice, Gardner destroyed attacks with ridiculous ease and finished with the best strike rate among everyone with 100 runs. One of the most-feared batters in the middle overs and at the death, Gardner loses a point for her bowling: she did not get the wickets and often went for runs.
Nicola Carey - 4/10
M: 7 | 46 runs at 46.00, SR 159, HS: 26* | 1-0-4-0
So strong were Australia that they included Carey in the XI in every game but seldom needed her. An all-rounder of her class batted only thrice (and faced 29 balls) and bowled only one over.
Annabel Sutherland - 8/10
M: 7 | 59 runs at 29.50, SR 155, HS: 27 | 6 wickets at 26.50, ec 7.69, BBI: 2-12
Sutherland did what she does best in T20 cricket: she came on in the middle overs and bowled at the death, picking up crucial wickets in the process. She also got a few big hits when her batting was needed.
Georgia Wareham - 9/10
M: 7 | 82 runs at 27.33, SR 182, HS: 41 | 7 wickets at 10.71, ec 4.50, BBI: 3-13
There have been conversations around Wareham’s selection over Alana King’s being down to her batting. There may be truth in that, but she finished with the best economy rate in the World Cup, emphasising her peerless role in the middle overs. Her power-hitting came to the fray whenever needed as well.
Sophie Molineux - 9/10
M: 7 | 11 wickets at 14.72, ec 6.75, BBI: 2-6
Following Meg Lanning and Healy was always going to be a challenge, but Molineux stepped seamlessly into the giant shoes to finish as Australia’s highest wicket-taker. She struck at regular intervals throughout the World Cup, eliminating any chance of big middle-over partnerships.
Kim Garth - 8/10
M: 7 | 6 wickets at 24.17, ec 6.30, BBI: 2-18
Match after match, Garth played her part inside the powerplay, striking at times but invariably making scoring difficult. Outside the powerplay, Molineux used her in short bursts, often in one-over spells: she never disappointed.
Alana King - 7/10
M: 4 | 2 wickets at 25.00, ec 6.25, BBI: 2-26
King did well in her limited opportunities. Had there been no Wareham, she would have played throughout the World Cup.
Lucy Hamilton - 8/10
M: 5 | 1 wicket at 68.00, ec 4.85, BBI: 1-19
Barely out of her teens, Hamilton came to this World Cup with a solitary T20I cap. Australia entrusted her with the new ball every time – a role filled by giants over the years. Yet, despite bowling in the powerplay, she went for under five an over. Her only wicket came in the final, but that was probably an aberration. Her time will come.
Megan Schutt - no rating
M: 1 | 2-0-10-0
Only one outing and two overs for the veteran in the World Cup.
Grace Harris - no rating
M: 1
Harris neither batted nor bowled in her only game.
