Rishi Vermanni, a right-arm seamer who plays for Orlando Galaxy in the Minor League Cricket tournament in the USA, conceded 43 runs in one over against Atlanta Fire yesterday (August 30), as his side slumped to a heavy defeat.
MLC bowler Rishi Vermanni concedes 43 runs in an over
Atlanta Fire batted first in the match at Church St Park in North Carolina, and Vermanni was given the fifth over of the innings. Fire had scored 30 runs off the first four overs, with Hardik Desai and Shuaib Syed keeping it tight. However, Vermanni bowled a no ball off his first delivery, and followed up with a wide off the re-bowl. His next re-bowl was another no-ball, which Steven Taylor slapped for six.
Yet to bowl a legal delivery in the over, Vermanni bowled another no-ball following being hit for six, adding another two runs to Atlanta's total, and sent down another wide next up. His nightmare continued with his fourth no-ball off the re-bowl, which was again hit for six by Sagar Patel. That no-ball meant Vermanni had bowled a full over without a single legal delivery, and conceded 20 runs with the over still technically yet to start.

Thankfully, he bowled his first legal delivery of the over off his next delivery, but it was also hit for six by Patel. By the end of the over, which contained one further no ball in an attempt to bowl the third delivery, Vermanni had sent down 13 balls and conceded 43 runs.
Atlanta Fire went on to score 217-5 in their innings, with Taylor retiring after reaching his half-century. Vermanni did not bowl another over. Orlando Galaxy could only muster 142 in their innings, and were bowled out with a ball to spare.

The performance will likely give head coach Shivnarine Chanderpaul plenty to think about. The West Indies legend has coached the side in several seasons of the minor league, with the side yet to claim a title. Chanderpaul's son, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, also plays for the team, and top-scored against Atlanta Fire with a 28-ball 30.
