Hasan Ali and Andrew Tye combined to add a match-winning 56 runs for the ninth wicket for Yorkshire in their T20 Blast win over Derbyshire.

Hasan Ali joined Tye in the middle in the 16th over after Jack Morely had Dom Bess caught at long on, which left Yorkshire reeling at 139-8 in a 195-run chase, still needing another 56 to win in 27 balls. The Pakistan quick took a single and hit a six off his first two balls, bringing the equation down to 48 off 24.
Hasan then proceeded to hit the third ball he faced for a four in the 17th over, bowled by Ben Aitchison. Tye, who had started his innings with a boundary and a maximum, scored two more fours in the over to take 15 from it and leave themselves needing 33 more off the last three overs.
Twelve more runs came off the next over, bowled by Nick Potts, with Tye hitting a six and a boundary, while Hasan Ali hit Akif Javed for consecutive maximums on the first two deliveries of the penultimate over to take 14 off it and leave them needing only six runs from the last over, which they achieved with four balls to spare.
Hasan Ali finished with 31 off 12, with two fours and three sixes, while Tye scored 32 off one extra delivery. The duo’s 56-run stand off 23 balls is the eighth-quickest 50-plus partnership for the ninth-wicket in T20 cricket, coming at 14.6 per over. Interestingly, Hasan Ali was also part of the seventh-quickest ninth-wicket 50-plus T20 stand, having added 62 off 25 with Mohammad Wasim in the 2021 PSL.
Earlier in the Yorkshire vs Derbyshire game in Leeds, Martin Andersson remained unbeaten to score the fourth T20 fifty (81* off 56) of his career. Ross Whiteley played an impactful knock of 39 off 17 to take Derbyshire to 194-4.
In reply, Adam Lyth scored a quickfire 31 off 11 before Moeen Ali slammed 51 in 35 deliveries to take the side close, but fell in the 15th over to make matters complicated. Bess followed him soon after to bring Hasan Ali and Tye together in the middle.
