Pakistan-born Jalat Khan has picked up thirteen wickets in his last two games in Zimbabwe’s domestic List A tournament.
Jalat Khan takes 13 wickets in two List A games for the Southern Rocks
Playing for the Southern Rocks in the Pro50 Championship, Jalat picked up seven wickets for 44 runs, his best-ever List A numbers, in his side’s commanding 133-run victory over Mid West Rhinos on Monday (March 2). He followed it up with a 6-30 in the next game, against the Mountaineers, albeit in a 77-run defeat on Friday (March 13).
The Rocks batted first against Mid West Rhinos; riding on Innocent Kaia’s 103 and his brother Roy’s 65, they posted 255 in 50 overs. But Jalat never let the chase get off, dismissing opener Terrence Makoroma on the first delivery before also removing his opening partner Ahsan Ali Aqil on the fifth ball of the first over.
The left-arm pacer proceeded to pick up yet another wicket in his second over before taking his fourth on the first ball of his next spell. He completed his five-for by removing the dangerous-looking Trevor Gwandu in his final spell to reduce the Rhinos to 115-8, and then also took the last two wickets off consecutive deliveries to finish with figures of 7-44.
Jalat produced yet another fine performance in the very next game, taking a second consecutive five-for. He picked up two wickets in his first spell, before taking four more in his second spell to finish with figures of 6-30 and bowl out the Mountaineers for 199. The Rocks’ batters, however, faltered in the chase and were bowled out for 122.
Jalat Khan leads Pro50 Championship and Logan Cup wicket-taking charts this season
Between the two List A outings, the pacer returned figures of 4-46 and 4-51 in the two innings of a Logan Cup win over the Mountaineers. He now has 28 wickets in five matches at 13.96 each in the Logan Cup and 22 wickets in five matches at 8.09 in the Pro50 Championship this season, and is the top wicket-taker so far in both competitions.
Jalat, born in November 2002 in Pakistan, has also been part of PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars' Player Development Program; he played five games for them at the Namibia Global T20 tournament in the 2022-23 season.
