Pakistan Test spinner Sajid Khan has been ruled out of the Shaheens’ upcoming tour of England due to a fracture on his right thumb.

Pakistan Shaheens will travel to England for a multi-format series, beginning on July 22. Led by Saud Shakeel, they will first play a one-day match against First-Class Select XI today (July 22) at Beckenham. They will then face Professional County Club Select XI in two ODIs, on July 25 and 27, in Kent and Hove, respectively.

The visitors will also play two three-day matches - the first, against PCC Select XI in Hove on July 29, and the second, against a combined side featuring players from the South Asian Cricket Academy and MCC Young Cricketers, from August 3 in Canterbury.

Sajid Khan ruled out of the England tour

Along with Shakeel, Pakistan had also picked three other Test players in the Shaheens' 18-member squad - Musa Khan, Mir Hamza and Sajid. Sajid, however, will no longer be able to participate after injuring himself during a training session at the Tonbridge School Ground in Kent. He will return to Pakistan and will undergo further treatment. There has been no request for a replacement.

The squad also has several promising talents, such as Ubaid Shah, Naseem Shah’s brother, along with Azam Awais and Maaz Sadaqat. While Ubaid picked up 18 wickets in the Under-19 World Cup last year, Awais and Sadaqat were the top two run-scorers in the 2024-25 Quaid-e-Azam.

Now 31, Sajid has played 12 Tests, picking up 59 wickets at 27.28 with four five-fors. His best innings figures of 8-42, against Bangladesh in December 2021, are the fourth-best figures by a bowler from Pakistan in Test cricket.
