The list is led by a yesteryear India opener, who scored 2,749 runs in 27 matches at an average of 65.45. He scored as many as 13 hundreds, with seven fifties between 1971 and 1983, with a high score of 236*. Two others made over 2,000 runs in these contests - both belonging to the West Indies.

Overall, 21 batters crossed 1,000 runs in India-West Indies Test matches, 11 of whom are from India. Surprisingly, a West Indies legend failed to make much of a mark against India: In 17 Tests, he averaged 34.55, with two hundreds.
The next series between the two countries begins on October 2, giving another opportunity for several new faces to cement their legacy in the rivalry.
