Brampton Blitz conceded 148-6 after bowling first. The pick of their bowlers was Chawla, who took 3-23 off his two overs. Chawla first dismissed a rampant Sikandar Raza for 29 off 13 and then went on to remove Rayyan Pathan (19 off seven) and Mississauga Masters’ wicketkeeper Hamza Tariq (0) off consecutive balls.
Chawla's economy rate of 11.50 was the best among all bowlers, ahead of Richard Gleeson (1-24), who went at 12 runs per over.
Brampton blitzed the chase with a rapid opening stand between Martin Guptill and Will Smeed. By the time Guptill was dismissed for 79 off 25, they had already reached 141 in 6.5 overs. Smeed remained unbeaten to finish on 63 off 21, sealing the chase with two overs and nine wickets to spare.
Later in the day, Brampton defeated the Montreal Royal Tigers in the final to win the trophy. Chasing a modest 70 runs, they cruised to victory courtesy of cameos by Guptill (23 not out off 13) and Vince (34 off 16), winning in just 5.5 overs with eight wickets in hand. Chawla was required to bowl only one over in the final, in which he conceded 18 runs without picking up a wicket.
What's Piyush Chawla's professional record?
Chawla called time on his career in June this year. He was part of India’s winning squad in the inaugural T20 World Cup, though he didn’t get a game. He also went on to represent India in their triumphant 2011 ODI World Cup campaign. However, since making his India debut in 2006, his international career was restricted to just 25 ODIs, seven T20Is, and three Tests.
He is currently tied with Sunil Narine as the joint-third-highest wicket-taker in the IPL. Chawla was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team that won the tournament in 2014 and also represented Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians.
