Scotland batter Ailsa Lister was recalled to the crease after she was given out to a Mankad against Bangladesh on Tuesday (June 2), following a team decision to withdraw the appeal.
Ailsa Lister recalled after being Mankaded
Scotland were three wickets down in the 10th over chasing a target of 153 during the tri-nation series against Bangladesh in Edinburgh. Lister had scored 10 runs off seven balls and was at the non-striker's end at the beginning of the 10th over, which was being bowled by Sanjida Maghla.
Coming into bowl her second delivery, Maghla stopped just after her delivery stride, having not released the ball. She turned and removed the bails, with Lister well out of her crease, despite turning to try and get her bat in. Maghla appealed, and the umpire raised his finger, leaving Lister staring in disbelief before walking off.
However, she stopped just short of the boundary as the Bangladesh team convened in the middle. Following the consultation, Bangladesh withdrew the appeal, and Lister was recalled to resume her innings.
Law 38.3 of the MCC Laws of Cricket states: "At any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out if he/she is out of his/her ground. In these circumstances the non-striker will be out Run out if he/she is out of his/her ground when his/her wicket is broken by the bowler throwing the ball at the stumps or by the bowler’s hand holding the ball, whether or not the ball is subsequently delivered.
"Even if the non-striker had left his/her ground before the instant at which the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, once the bowler has reached that point it is no longer possible for the bowler to run out the non-striker under this Law."
Speaking in her post-match interview, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty said: "I think it's all about sportsmanship. We really didn't want to do any kind of stuff, so I think it is a part of the game but we really don't want to do that."
Lister went on to score 16 off 12, as Bangladesh sealed victory by 34 runs.
