Angelo Mathews and Wanindu Hasaranga have both registered for the upcoming Belgium-based EUT20 league.
Angleo Mathews and Wanindu Hasaranga sign up for EUT20 Belgium
The Sri Lanka all-round duo join South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen among the high-profile names to have signed for EUT20 Belgium. Former England captain Eoin Morgan has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the league, launched in October last year and is scheduled to start on May 30, 2026.
Hasaranga is also part of the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup and is fresh off a player of the series performance (five wickets) in a three-T20I series against Pakistan, which finished 1-1. He picked up a four-wicket haul, his fifth in the format, in the third game to help his side to a 14-run win.
Mathews’ most recent white-ball outing came in the Abu Dhabi T10 in November 2025. Playing for the Royal Champs, he scored just seven runs across two innings and went wicketless. He last played T20I cricket for Sri Lanka in June 2024, and hasn’t been picked for the upcoming World Cup. Mathews retired from Test cricket in June last year, playing his final game in the format against Bangladesh.
The upcoming European league will be Mathews' third franchise-based T20 league after having featured in the Lanka Premier League and the IPL. Hasaranga, meanwhile, has been much more regular in T20 leagues worldwide, having played in the LPL, IPL, ILT20, CPL and BPL.
The EUT20 Belgium is scheduled to be played in May-June 2026, with six participating teams: one each from the cities of Antwerp, Bruges, Leuven, Liege, Ghent and Brussels. Van der Dussen, Mathews and Hasaranga are three current internationals who have registered for the competition so far.
