South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder picked up seven wickets for just six runs while playing for Lions in their CSA four-day Division 1 game against KwaZulu Natal Inland.

Currently bottom of the league table, KwaZulu-Natal Inland batted first at the Wanderers but were pegged back in just the fifth over, with Codi Yusuf removing opener Malcolm Nofal. Lutho Sipamla got the better of Kagiso Rapulana, while Delano Potgieter dismissed Andile Mogakane to reduce the visitors to 29-3 by the 12th over.
Mulder took over from there, taking all of the next seven wickets. He bowled first change for the Lions, sending out a maiden 11th over. He removed Ben Compton leg before wicket in his second over and had Sean Gilson caught behind in his next, which was a wicket maiden.
Mulder’s fourth over didn’t fetch any wickets and went for two runs, but he dismissed Ntandoyenkosi Zuma in his fifth, while giving away four runs. He didn’t concede any more runs in the remainder of the innings, taking one wicket in his sixth over and finishing with three more in five balls of the seventh.
He removed Matthew Urquhart on the first delivery of his seventh over before dismissing Renaldo Meyer and Ziyaad Abraham on consecutive deliveries to finish with incredible figures of 6.5-4-6-7.
His spell also helped Lions bowl out KwaZulu-Natal Inland for just 63 runs, the lowest innings total since the CSA 4-day Series Division 1 moved on from the franchise set up after the 2021/22 season. Mulder’s figures were also the best for a Lions bowler since the change in 2022.
Notably, he holds the South Africa record for the most runs in a Test innings. He scored 367* against Zimbabwe in July 2025, but declared the team’s innings as the captain when he was just 33 short of Brian Lara’s record of 400 runs.
