In the 2025/26 Major League Tournament, Ravindu Fernando and Jeffrey Vandersay spun Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club to an incredible win against Police Sports Club.
Ravindu Fernando, Jeffrey Vandersay pull off incredible heist
Despite losing opener Dhanuja Induwara (19), Police SC were in control of their chase of 135 against Bloomfield. At one point, they were 73-1 with Avishka Tharindu (37) and Dulash Udayanga (12) at the crease.
At this point off-spinner Fernando – who had played for Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asian Games – removed Udayanga. Leg-spinner Vandersay, a veteran of two Tests, 29 ODIs, and 17 T20Is, got Tharindu in the next over, while Fernando followed with Ashen Bandara and Priyamal Perera, and suddenly PSC were 90-5.
Wicketkeeper Vishad Randika (19) kept the fight on, adding 14 for the sixth wicket and 10 for the seventh before Fernando got him as well. That ended the resistance as Vandersay ran through the tail, leaving Dilum Sudeera stranded on nine.
PSC lost their last nine wickets for 48 runs in 92 balls to lose by 13 runs. Fernando finished with 5-52 and Vandersay with 5-33. This was Fernando’s ninth first-class five-wicket haul, while Vandersay had his 21st five-for in the format.
Earlier, Tharindu’s 116 had got PSC a 92-run first-innings lead even as Duvindu Tillakaratne returned 5-80 for PSC. Dilum Sudeera (4-92) and Nalin Priyadarshana (5-89) then restricted PSC’s target to a mere 135.
Despite the result, PSC remained at the top of Group A with 65.305 points from five games. Bloomfield are at second place, with 43.895 from five, though Colombo Cricket Club (42.25 in four) are very close to them.
