The men's T20 World Cup Africa regional final qualifier kicked off on Friday (September 26). Here's what the points table looks like after the first round of matches.
Namibia trounce Kenya, Zimbabwe beat Uganda in T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier
The top two sides at the end of the Africa regional final will qualify for next year's men's T20 World Cup. With eight sides split in two groups of four, the top two from each group will make the semi-finals – the winners of those matches will qualify for the tournament.
Day one kicked off in style for Namibia, as JJ Smit scored a stunning century from No.6. Coming in at 68-4, he got to the three figures mark off 37 balls – the second-fastest hundred in the format for his country, and the second fastest in a T20 World Cup qualifier. Namibia made 241-5 before two wickets apiece for Alexander Busing-Volschenk, Bernard Scholtz and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton helped restrict Kenya to 105-7.
In the other early Group A fixture, Nigeria's team effort saw six bowlers take at least one wicket each to bowl Malawi out for 88. Wicketkeeper Sulaimon Runswe remained unbeaten on 51 as they won by nine wickets with 52 balls to spare.
Uganda put up a solid total against Zimbabwe, as debutant Sumeet Verma (45) and captain Riazat Ali Shah (35) helped them to 152-9. Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans took three wickets each. In reply, Zimbabwe captain Brian Bennett made 72 off 44, helping seal the chase in 17.3 overs.
In the final match of the day, Vinoo Balakrishnan's 68 was only enough to help Botswana score 122-6. Tanzania's Arun Yadav made a quick 62 off 32, as they won in 13.5 overs.
