Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal hung up his boots from international cricket on Thursday (July 6), announcing his shock retirement from all formats three months before the ODI World Cup — here’s a list of his achievements and records.
Tamim played a total of 70 Tests, 241 ODIs and 78 T20Is for his country in a career spanning 16 years. He made his debut against Zimbabwe in the third ODI in 2007 at Harare and went on to become one of the greatest batters for his country. He ended with a total of 25 hundreds, including a ton in the shortest format.

Tamim Iqbal achievements:
Tamim Iqbal made 5,134 runs in Test cricket at an average of 38.89, with 31 fifties and ten hundreds. He was the second double centurion for Bangladesh in the format when he made 206 against Pakistan in 2015. Overall, only three batters have made a double century in a Test innings from the country – Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim. Only Mominul Haque has hit more Test centuries for Bangladesh.
He has also made 8,313 runs in ODIs with 14 hundreds and 56 fifties at an average of 36.62. He is his country’s highest run-scorer in the format, is one of two batters with a 150-plus score in an innings (after Litton Das), and has the most fifty-plus scores in ODIs (70). No other batter from Bangladesh has made more than ten ODI tons. Tamim has 14.
He is also the only T20I centurion from his team, with a high score of 103*, which he made against Oman during the 2016 T20 World Cup. Overall, Tamim has 1,758 runs in the format at an average of 24.08.
Tamim also captained Bangladesh in one Test and 37 ODIs, between 2019 and 2023.
Tamim Iqbal: Career records
Tamim is one of two Bangladesh batters to make more than 5,000 Test runs and is currently the second-highest Test run-scorer, behind Mushfiqur Rahim. He is also the only player from the country to make three successive hundreds in the format, a feat he achieved in 2014 when he made 109, 109 and 206 against Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
He is also the youngest ODI centurion from Bangladesh, making a hundred when he was 19 years and 2 days in 2008, against Ireland. Shakib and Anamul Haque are the only other batters with ODI tons as teenagers. Tamim is also the fastest Bangladeshi to 6,000 (175 innings), 7,000 (204 innings) and 8,000 runs. (227 innings).
He has played 85 consecutive ODIs, between 2007 and 2010, behind only Mushfiqur, who played 92 successive games. He has also been awarded with six Player of the ODI Series awards, the second-highest for any Bangladesh cricketer
