The Ford Trophy is the premium List-A domestic competition in New Zealand. A total of 30 league matches will be played in the current season followed by an eliminator and a final. Six teams – Otago Volts, Auckland Aces, Wellington Firebirds, Canterbury, Central Stags and Northern Districts Men – will lock horns against each other to compete for the trophy.
Central Stags are the defending champions owing to their six-wicket victory over Canterbury in the 2022-23 final. Canterbury scrambled their way to 212-9 with skipper Cole McConchie scoring 54 runs off 90 balls before Josh Clarkson (111 runs off 78 deliveries) played a blistering knock to gun down the target in 43.3 overs.
While Canterbury won against Wellington by 63 runs in their curtain-raiser game this season, Central Stags didn’t have an ideal start to their title defence as they lost the opening encounter to Northern Districts by 28 runs.
