UK club cricketer Kishor Kumar Sadhak, a resident of Ipswich, took two hat-tricks in two overs in a Two Counties Championship Division Six match on July 5.
Sadhak, a spin bowler playing for Ipswich and Colchester Cricket Club in the UK, took 6 for 21 against Kesgrave in a Two Counties Championship Division Six match.
Kesgrave, batting first, seemed well placed at 120-3, with opener Uday Muniratnam having already scored a fifty.
That’s when Sadhak ran through the lineup, cleaning up the rest of the batting with two hat-tricks in consecutive overs. He also helped in running out No.11 Jaskaran Singh (0). Five of Sadhak’s victims – Paul Kendrick, Jake Thompson, Chiran Reddy, Jack Wynn, Parry Minhas and Dylan Carter – were clean bowled, while Thompson was caught by Arjun Prabhu.
He finished with figures of 6-0-20-6. Tom Webb remained not out on 56.
Chasing a modest 139, Sadhak contributed with an unbeaten 14, including two fours and a six, as Ipswich and Colchester Cricket Club reached the target in 21 overs.
On BBC Essex's Around The Wicket, Sadhak described the moment when he picked up the sixth and final wicket of his double hat-trick: "When I saw that the person was bowled out, I was flying in the sky. It was amazing."
He added: "After the match, I got plenty of phone calls. We went to a restaurant and we enjoyed drinks and food. We spent almost two and a half hours there. It was a very lovely moment.
"When I saw that the person was bowled out, I was flying in the sky. It was amazing. There are lots of other players who play really well. So, I wouldn’t say I’m the first person on the teamsheet but I will be in a priority position!”
There have been previous instances of two hat-tricks by a bowler in the same match: Australia's Mitchell Starc did so in a 2017 Sheffield Shield game, while 113 years ago, Australia's Jimmy Matthews took a hat-trick twice against South Africa. However, in both those instances, the hat-tricks were spread across two innings. In that aspect, Sadhak's achievement is unique.
