Virat Kohli addressed social media speculations, blaming the Instagram algorithm for 'mistakenly' liking a post from a fan page dedicated to Indian actress Avneet Kaur.
A social media frenzy erupted after users noticed Kohli had liked a post from an Avneet Kaur fan page on Instagram. The incident sparked widespread chatter. Kohli has since responded directly, urging people not to overinterpret the situation.
He took to Instagram to put the matter to rest, urging everyone to put an end to the speculation. His Instagram story read: "I'd like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding."
This comes after a day Kohli had shared a heartfelt birthday message on the platform for his wife, Anushka.
Kohli opens up on social media detox
Earlier, at a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) event ahead of IPL 2025, Kohli spoke candidly about his relationship with social media. He admitted to consciously reducing his time on these platforms and revealed that he no longer shares personal content online.
Kohli, the most followed cricketer on social media, with over 271 million Instagram followers, admitted that his posts nowadays only consist of brand commitments which he agreed upon in the past.
"A lot of the things that I still have to do on social media are the things that I've kind of agreed to in the past," he explained then.
"But if you ask me today, I'm making a conscious effort not to include my social media handle which is private to me. In terms of whatever I'm doing next in my life, I'm kind of disconnecting the two. And I wanted to be able to do that because what happens is if you only see branded content on your platform, then people are like, oh, there's nothing being posted apart from this here. And it just becomes too complicated."
