David Willey hit for six in T20 Blast warm-up game by Croatian international

Watch: Former England white-ball bowler David Willey was dispatched for six by 17-year-old Croatia international and Somerset Academy batter Zach Vukosic in a T20 Blast warm-up fixture this week.

Playing in the fixture between Northants and Somerset second XIs, gearing up for the start of the T20 Blast this week, with regular first XI players dotted across both sides, Vukusic came in with Somerset wobbling in pursuit of victory. Having been set 114 to chase after Northants collapsed, Somerset were 61-6 in the 13th over.

Vukusic, who last year struck his maiden century in Devon's premier division for Exeter, and scored a half-century on T20I debut for Croatia against Belgium last year, launched a counter attack. He struck 36 off 23 balls, including five boundaries, which pushed Somerset over the line in the chase. One of those boundaries, was a pulled six off Willey, who could only watch as the ball sailed over the leg side boundary.

Willey retired from international cricket at the end of the 2023 World Cup, having represented England in 113 white-ball internationals, taking 151 wickets. He has captained Northants in the T20 Blast since 2023, having moved back to his boyhood club from Yorkshire in 2022.

Both Somerset and Northants will begin their T20 Blast campaigns on Friday, May 30, against Surrey and Yorkshire respectively. You can find the full squads for each of the T20 Blast teams here.
