In a high quality game between Lancashire and Derbyshire on the opening day of the 2021 T20 Blast, there was a comedic moment that wouldn’t have looked out of place on a village green.
Lancashire eventually sealed victory in the final over, chasing 169 with three balls to spare as Liam Livingstone took his side home with an unbeaten 94 from the top of the order.
Earlier in the game, there was a light-hearted moment as Luke Wood attempted a back-of-the-hand slower ball off the first delivery of the final over of the Derbyshire innings.
Wood didn’t get it quite right as the ball bounced twice before reaching Derbyshire batsman Fynn Hudson-Prentice. Sensing an opportunity for easy runs, Hudson-Prentice, who initially moved in position for a ramp shot, moved towards the ball and tried to swipe it behind square on the leg-side only to miss it himself.
The commentator on the live stream described events as an “absolute shambles of a delivery.” Wood was n0-balled for the double bouncing wide.
