With the series on the line, Azam came in with Pakistan still needing 41 off the last 33 deliveries. He teed off from the word go, thumping Graham Hume for a six over over cover off his second ball. He ended the 16th over with another four over point. It was against Mark Adair in the next over when he unleashed mayhem, launching him for three sixes in a row to close the game.

The first one came off a free hit as Azam cleared his front leg and pulled Adair over deep midwicket. The next hit was almost a near encore of the previous shot: Azam climbed onto the short ball and slammed over the same region. Then Adair erred in line and bowled a wide before The No.5 batter muscled a straight six down the ground to win the game with 19 balls to spare. He finished on an unbeaten 10-ball 30, including four sixes and a four, as Pakistan levelled the series 1-1 with a decider left.
