A UK club match on Saturday (July 12) was tied after the batting team lost their last five wickets for zero runs.
In the Cheshire County Cricket League, the 2nd XIs of Marple CC and Bramhall CC faced off at the Michael Hibbert Cricket Ground.
Bramhall won the toss and elected to bat first and were bowled out seven balls before their 50 overs, for 201. Captain and opener Rishi Kannah top-scored with 57, scored off 118 balls. Wicketkeeper Ed Gray contributed 26, and the next highest-scorer was extras, with 25. Greg Marsland, James Hirst and Joel Greasley took three wickets apiece for Marple.
Marple's reply had a couple of early hitches as they were 47-2. But James Crisall (54) and Will Darby (73) then put on 119 runs for the third wicket to put them on track for victory.
Marple were 201-5 in 49 overs with just one run needed for victory before disaster struck. Pacer Josh Patel then took an incredible hat-trick, bowling Andrew Wild, Greasley and Edward Skelton. He followed it up with a fourth in a row, trapping No.10 Ben Bailey lbw.
Marple skipper James Hirst was the last batter, coming in with one run to win from two balls, and one wicket in hand. With the field up, Hirst knocked his first ball into the off side and took off for a single. Andy Tatton collected the ball and lobbed it to Gray, who broke the stumps at the striker's end, running out Marsland and sealing a tie.
Each side earned eight points for the game, in addition to three bowling and four batting points.
