Watch: Glenn Maxwell was at his very top of the game against Mumbai Indians. He unleashed a flurry of unconventional, brutal strokes which unsettled the MI bowlers.
During the all important encounter against Mumbai Indians, Maxwell walked in when RCB were 75-2 after 8.5 overs. Having just lost the wicket of KS Bharat, Virat and Maxwell were circumspect over the next couple of overs and their run-rate dropped down to 7.73 by the 11th over.
However Maxwell, whose good start to this year’s IPL had seemingly tapered off in the later games, came to the party in the 12th over. He switch hit Krunal Pandya for a six over deep point in the 12th over.
Next over, he hit the New Zealand fast bowler Milne for two boundaries towards the deep mid-wicket, the second of which was inches from being a six.
He continued the carnage against all MI bowlers, switch hitting Rahul Chahar over deep point for a massive six.
His next big moment came when he reverse swept Milne for a six over Third Man. Adam Milne gave away 48 runs in the innings, 31 of which came out of Maxwell’s willow.
While, he did get runs off conventional shots, it was a night for audacious strokes. He unleashed a helicopter shot off India’s premium fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who had bowled so well through the night. Finally, it was Bumrah who ended Maxwell’s innings by getting him caught at long-on. His 37-ball 56 helped RCB reach a total of 165.
RCB went on to win the game by 54 runs.
