Watch: Rangpur Riders’ Haris Rauf and Nurul Hasan Shanto were involved in a heated argument with the umpires, following a delayed no-ball call during their BPL 2023 match against Sylhet Strikers.

The incident took place in the 20th over of Sylhet’s innings, with the side having slumped to 88-9. Robiul Haque banged one in short to Rejaur Rahman Raja, who got hit on the helmet off the second ball of the over. Even as the physios came out to inspect, a rather belated no-ball call from the on-field umpires left the fielding team unimpressed. Nurul was seen talking to umpires Gazi Sohel and Prageeth Rambukwella, and soon found the support of Rauf, playing his fourth game for the Riders this season.

The two were seen remonstrating with the umpire even as the match officials defended their decision, having called a second bouncer for the over after the first ball also jumped past the batter. The decision stayed, but Robiul gave just four runs off the next five balls, leaving Sylhet at 92-9 after 20 overs.

The incident eventually didn’t matter much, as Rangpur comfortably chased down the target with six wickets and 26 balls to spare.
