Nathan Lyon, who is playing his 100th Test match at the Gabba, had a sensational debut back in 2011 in Sri Lanka, where he took a five-wicket haul including a wicket off his very first delivery.

Nathan Lyon is currently Australia’s third-highest Test wicket-taker behind Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath and is on the cusp on completing 400 Test wickets. The off-spinner, who made his Test debut in Galle, months after his first-class debut for South Australia, had a memorable series in Sri Lanka, finishing behind Ryan Harris as Australia’s second-highest wicket-taker.

Lyon’s moment of reckoning came in his very first innings with the ball. The off-spinner picked up 5-34 in the innings, running through the Sri Lankan tail by getting the last four wickets in the hosts’ innings.

However, he had a stunning start to his career earlier in the innings when he sent back Sri Lankan No.3 batsman, Kumar Sangakkara off his first ball in Test cricket. A sharp off-break landed on off-stump and turned away to catch the edge of Sangakkara’s bat. The catch was neatly pouched at first slip by Michael Clarke.
