Watch: Deepak Chahar muscled an Adam Milne delivery into the stands, and won the respect of his skipper Rohit Sharma.
Deepak showed his skill with the bat after walking out in the middle when India needed some quick runs. India were 162-7 when the Rajasthan bowler came out at No.9, and ended up at 184-7, courtesy his 8-ball 21.
Amongst his exquisite strokes was a sensational six, one where he flat-batted the Kiwi fast bowler Adam Milne over long on. The quick is capable of topping 90mph, but that didn’t stop Chahar sitting back and waiting for the slower-ball bouncer, before smashing it powerfully back over Milne’s head.
The commentators could hardly contain themselves, “He’s flat batted it, he’s slapped it over long on.”
Sunil Gavaskar went, “A strike-rate of 300. 18 off six deliveries. What a terrific shot this is! It’s a tennis shot, isn’t it? A forehand over long on.”
As good as the shot was, it was the reaction of India skipper Rohit Sharma that drew the most eyeballs. The legendary opener had earlier in the day notched a record-breaking half-century, smashing his 150th T20I six along the way. But still it was he who saluted the tailender and applauded the six.
Chahar’s six is the third shot in the below video, with Rohit’s salute coming at the end:
