Watch: Temba Bavuma’s dismissal on day three of the first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka was peculiar, to say the least.
On 71, the diminutive right-handed Proteas batsman walked off immediately after supposedly feathering an edge to the wicketkeeper off the bowling of Dasun Shanaka.
However, replays seemed to suggest that there was no contact between bat and ball as Bavuma slashed hard with an attempted cut shot; not only was there visible daylight, but Ultra Edge showed no spike as the ball passed the bat.
Furthermore, South Africa had reviews available to them, yet Bavuma showed no hesitation in departing, despite standing just 29 runs away from his first Test century in nearly five years.
