The batsman nudged the ball to square leg and took off for a single. He then looked to return for a second run even as his partner refused to budge from the keeper’s end. With both batsmen at the keeper’s end, the wicketkeeper, instead of throwing the ball down to the non-striker’s end, took out the entire stump set at his end and then made a sprint alongside the batsman to reach the other end.
Even then he had a chance to run the batsman out at the non-striker’s end. However, due to his reluctance to throw the ball and will to dislodge the bails himself, the opportunity went begging. Funnily, he missed out on clipping the bails after the sprint.
