West Indies opener Evin Lewis has retired from first-class cricket.
Evin Lewis retires from first-class cricket
The opener returned to the longest format after nine years away in this season of the West Indies Championship, having also reversed a brief international retirement that he announced after missing out on West Indies' squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. That sparked discussions around Lewis potentially pushing for a spot in the West Indies Test setup.
Lewis' first six innings this season yielded just 88 runs, before he turned things around with a career-best 122 in the third innings of the final against defending champions Guyana. That helped set them 281 for victory, before T&T's bowlers took over to secure a 141-run win and a first title in 20 years. He was named Player of the Match.
"It was pretty simple. I told Jason Mohammed last year... he has done so much for Trinidad cricket and I wanted to be there for the final game for him and that's one of the main reasons I came here [back to first-class cricket]," Lewis said at the post-match presentation.
"It was pretty tough," he admitted. "I didn't have the season that I wanted. But I knew this was a final and it was very important for me to get a score as well. I just went in there and dug deep, and got a good score for the team."
Upon being asked about his Test aspirations, Lewis said, "No, no, to be honest, this is actually my last game. Me and Jason Mohammed are actually retiring from four-day cricket."

Mohammed is the only player remaining from T&T's last first-class title triumph, the Carib Beer Challenge in 2005-06. First-innings centurion in that final against Barbados, Rayad Emrit, is the current coach of the team. The team in that final also featured current and future internationals Lendl Simmons, Daren Ganga, Dwayne Bravo, Brian Lara, Denesh Ramdin, Mervyn Dillon, Dave Mohammed and Amit Jaggernauth.
Lewis made his first-class debut six years after that, against Leeward Islands in March 2012. He retires with 1,439 runs to his name, but at the moment it would seem he remains available to play international white-ball cricket. His last ODI came in August 2025 against Pakistan, and his last T20I in January 2026. Lewis is uncapped in Test cricket.
