Laura Wolvaardt, Alana King, Smriti Mandhana

The Wisden Women's Cricket Weekly podcast panel – Lauren Winfield-Hill, Yas Rana and Katya Witney – have selected their women's cross-format team of the year for 2025. You can read this piece in full in the new issue of Wisden Cricket Monthly, available to buy here.

Despite their semi-final exit from the 2025 Women's World Cup, the XI is dominated by Australians, with four players making the final team. Australia started the year in dominant style with their crushing win over England in the Ashes, as well as losing just two matches across formats over the year. Beth Mooney takes the gloves after a stand-out year with the bat in which she scored three hundreds, while Annabel Sutherland comes into the team after being named Wisden Cricket Monthly's Best Young Women's Player in the World in August.

Two record breakers make-up a formidable opening partnership, with Smriti Mandhana and Laura Wolvaardt two of three players to score five ODI hundreds in a calendar year. Wolvaardt led South Africa to a third straight ICC tournament final, while Mandhana's stand-out year also featured an extraordinary T20I hundred against England.

Newly appointed England captain halfway through the year, Nat Sciver-Brunt, also makes the side, as does India star of the World Cup final Deepti Sharma. Marizanne Kapp makes her first appearance in the side at the age of 36, after making her career-best 121* against Pakistan just before the World Cup.

Nadine de Klerk rounds out three South Africans in the XI for her game-changing cameos in clutch moments, including during the World Cup against India. Fatima Sana is the lone representative from Pakistan – or any nation other than England, Australia, India and South Africa – for her impact during the World Cup.

The team was selected based on performances from January 1 to December 31, 2025 in Test, ODI and T20I cricket.
