Australia flatten Bangladesh
Australia hardly broke a sweat as they cruised to a nine-wicket win in the first game of the day. None of their seven bowlers went for more than five an over as they restricted Bangladesh to 77-8. Georgia Voll (45 not out in 32 balls) then ensured they got home inside ten overs and gained a massive net run rate boost.
India beat Netherlands, top table
India’s 95-run win against tournament debutants Netherlands saw them replace Australia at the top of the points table. They rode on Smriti Mandhana’s 47-ball 74 and Shafali Verma’s 38-ball 55 to amass 209-5. The Dutch did well to reach 96-3 in the 14th over before Verma (3-20) and Shree Charani (4-19) bowled them out for 114. Before that, Shreyanka Patil twisted her ankle after bowling only one ball and left the ground. There is no official update on her yet.
Pakistan go down fighting against South Africa
The third clash of the day seemed headed for another one-sided finish when South Africa, spearheaded by Marizanne Kapp (3-23), reduced Pakistan to 50-8. Captain Fatima Sana (55 not out in 38 balls) then lifted her side to 126-9. Thanks to Annerie Dercksen (52 in 35), South Africa seemed to be cruising at 53-1 and then 76-2, but they soon became 107-6. At 123-6, it seemed to be over, but Sana (3-16) struck twice more before they could clinch the game.
