Sri Lanka stayed alive in the race for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals, beating Scotland in their last group game. Here’s how the points tables look like after the result.
Sri Lanka and Scotland faced off in the only World Cup match scheduled for Friday, June 26, and dished out a thriller. Chamari Athapaththu’s side chased down 152 with a ball to spare, their highest successful chase at the T20 World Cup, and stayed in the hunt for a semi-final berth.
Scotland, on the other hand, missed out on a potential fourth-place finish in the group, which could have earned them a direct qualification to the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup. But they will take pride from the campaign, where they also ran the West Indies close and beat Ireland.
Sarah Bryce stayed unbeaten for a 33-ball 47 to take her side to 151-6 in 20 overs, with crucial contributions from Darcey Carter, Kathryn Bryce and Alisa Lister. Mithali Ayodhya registered the best figures of her still young T20I career, returning 2-34.
Athapaththu began the chase brilliantly, racing her way to a 16-ball 33 within the powerplay. But Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were in a tricky situation when they went seven down in the 18th over, with 17 runs still needed. But they eventually got over the line on the penultimate delivery of the game.
