South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia are set to host the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, and here are the fixtures, dates and venues for the coveted tournament.
The Super Series, which will be a round-robin format between the 12th to 14th ranked teams, will be played on October 2, 4 and 6, respectively. One of those three teams will then join the remaining sides for the group stage fixtures, which commence on October 7 in Cape Town.
In addition to the Super Series, the ICC have also introduced the Super Sevens. The top three teams from each group qualify for the Super Sevens, along with the next best-ranked team across both groups. The top four teams in the Super Sevens will then go through to the semi-finals, which are scheduled on November 17 and 18 in Cape Town and Centurion, respectively. The final will be played on November 21 in Johannesburg.
Group A consists of India, Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A, whereas Group B comprises New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh and Qualifier B.
In a repeat of the 2023 ODI World Cup final, defending champions Australia will take on India in the opening fixture of the group stages in Cape Town on October 7, which will also host South Africa’s opening fixture against New Zealand on October 9.
India will take on Pakistan on October 10 in Johannesburg, which will be the first game to be played at the venue in the tournament.
Furthermore, teams have been pre-seeded into designated Super Sevens positions. The pre-seeded allocations are listed below:
A1: India
A2: Australia
A3: Pakistan
AB4: England
B1: New Zealand
B2: South Africa
B3: Sri Lanka
If a non-seeded team qualifies for the Super Sevens stage in place of a seeded team, that team will assume the Super Sevens position allocated to the pre-seeded team that it displaced.
