Nishan Peiris, born on August 11, 1997, in Negombo, Sri Lanka, is a right-arm off-break bowler and left-handed lower-order batter who has steadily risen through the ranks of Sri Lankan cricket. Educated at St. Peter's College in Negombo, Peiris showcased his cricketing talent early on, leading to his selection for various domestic teams, including Badureliya Sports Club, Ragama Cricket Club, and Negombo Cricket Club.
Peiris made his first-class debut for Badureliya Sports Club in the 2015–16 Premier League Tournament on February 19, 2016. He further honed his skills in the domestic circuit, making his Twenty20 debut for Ragama Cricket Club in the 2017–18 SLC Twenty20 Tournament on February 24, 2018, and his List A debut for the same club in the 2017–18 Premier Limited Overs Tournament on March 11, 2018.
His consistent performances in domestic cricket earned him a spot in the national team, and he made his Test debut against New Zealand at the Galle International Stadium from September 26 to 29, 2024. In this debut match, Peiris delivered a remarkable performance, claiming 3 wickets for 33 runs in the first innings and 6 wickets for 170 runs in the second, totaling 9 wickets for 203 runs. This achievement ranks as the third-best match figures by a Sri Lankan bowler on Test debut, following Prabath Jayasuriya and Praveen Jayawickrama.
