India and England’s cricketing contests have not necessarily been peaceful. Over the years, there have been rifts, both on and off the field. While some of these have happened between the two teams, there had been intra-team tussles as well.

India were swept 0-3 on their disastrous 1974 tour of England. Their woes were compounded by shoplifting allegations against Sudhir Naik and an unsavoury evening at a dinner hosted by the Indian High Commissioner in London.

England fared just as poorly during their 0-3 defeat in 1992/93. Ted Dexter, their chair of selectors, blamed – among other things – the cricketers’ facial hair; while Phil Tufnell was fined after hurling verbal abuse at teammate Richard Blakey. The list of England’s woes on that tour is long.
