Twenty20 cricket began in England in 2003. That summer, an Australian hit the first hundred in the format, for Gloucestershire against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. It was the only hundred of that summer. He hit a ton in each of the next two seasons, which made him the first true-blue century scorer in T20 cricket.

In the first ever game of the T20 World Cup, in 2007, a Jamaican hit the first hundred in T20 Internationals. A legend of the format, he went on to become the first to smash 10 hundreds in T20 cricket. When he retired, he had 22 hundreds to his name: no one else had even nine.
