The race to become the first Pakistan batter to a 1,000 Test runs was keenly contested between three men. The man they affectionately called the Little Master eventually broke off from the other two, by virtue of a marathon triple hundred in the West Indies in 1958. Later that year, a wicketkeeper became the second.

Arguably Pakistan’s greatest ever batter held the record for most runs (8,832) for them for a long time. Another of their legends came close, but fell two runs short after what he had announced would be his last match. A 21st-century giant eventually became the first Pakistani to breach the 10,000-run barrier.
