In 1992, Zimbabwe became the ninth team to play men’s Test cricket – and became only the second team, after Australia, to not lose their first ever Test match. They rose through the ranks over the next decade until events off the ground affected their cricket.
However, Zimbabwe did not fade away. They struggled through the 2000s and much of the 2010s and even lost their Test status for a while. They are not among the nine teams that participate in the World Test Championship. However, they continue to play the format, in which they keep unearthing new stars.
