Since their readmission to international cricket, South Africa played their first Test match in 1992, in the West Indies. Later that year, they hosted India for a four-match Test series. However, it was not until the 1993/94 season that they played Australia, the last team to play men’s Test cricket against them before their apartheid ban.

Over this period, 16 cricketers (eight from each side) have captained the sides in these clashes between the two great Southern Hemisphere rivals. Some of them are legends of the game.
