At Madras (now Chennai) in 1933/34, an all-time great English left-arm spinner was the first non-Asian to take a seven-wicket Test match haul in Asia. He remained the only one to achieve this until a leg-spinner and a fast bowler, both Australian, in 1955/56.

At Kolkata in 1996/97, a debutant South African fast bowler became the first non-Asian to take eight wickets in a Test innings in Asia. The next four seven-fors included two eight-fors, both by Australians, at Fatullah in 2006 and at Nagpur in 2008/09. The first nine-for came at SSC in 2018, while the Mumbai Test of 2021/22 witnessed an all-ten.

In all, 35 non-Asian bowlers have taken seven or more wickets in a men’s Test innings on Asian soil until August 24, 2025. This spans all five host countries – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the UAE. How many can you name in 10 minutes?
