There have been 13 editions of the Men’s 50-over World Cup since 1975. Three of these – 1996, 2011, 2015 – have had quarter-finals. There have, thus, been 51 Player of the Match awards – 13 for the finals, 26 for the semi-finals, and 12 for the quarter-finals.

Some cricketers, however, have won the award twice (even in the same edition – an Indian in 1983, a Sri Lankan in 1996, two Australians in 1999 and 2023). One cricketer has actually been the Player of the Match in three knockout matches at the ODI World Cup.
