In a men’s Test match at The Oval in 1951, an English legend became the first to be dismissed obstructing the field in international cricket. While there were only two other instances in the next 55 years, the mode of dismissal really picked up momentum thereafter. At present, the count stands at 15. Seven of these have taken place since 2017, when handled the ball – yet another rare form of dismissal – was integrated into obstructing the field.
