The 2017/18 edition witnessed a first in Ashes history. For the first time in the history of the contest, there was a day-night Test, at Adelaide. At Sydney, Shaun and Mitchell Marsh both scored hundreds in the same Test innings, becoming the first pair of brothers to do this since Steve and Mark Waugh at The Oval in 2001.

Having conceded the Ashes in England in 2015, Australia regained the urn with a 4-0 win. Two of their four wins were by an innings, the other two were by 10 wickets and 120 runs. England dominated the Melbourne Test thanks to Alastair Cook’s ten-and-half-hour marathon, but could not drive the advantage home on a pitch the ICC later rated as “poor”.
