For two decades from the mid-1970s, the West Indies had ruled cricket in both Test cricket and ODIs. However, like all dynasties, theirs began to fade out in the new millennium. The 2004 Champions Trophy did little to change their fortunes.
However, the advent of T20 cricket again brought the best out of them. As the myriad franchise leagues offered them financially lucrative deals, they became the face of the new format around the world. And in 2012, they reunited to win the T20 World Cup – then the World Twenty20 – in Sri Lanka.

Then, in 2016, their women’s team stunned the Australians to win the T20 World Cup at the Eden Gardens. That same night at the same venue, the men’s team pulled off a famous win against England.
