Chasing a big target is never easy in ODIs. It took more than two decades for the first total in excess of 300 to be chased down. Chances of a batter reaching 150 in a successful chase, thus, used to be very low. Until October 2005, only two left-handed ODI giants – a West Indian in 1993, a Sri Lankan in 1997 – managed to do that.

The next two decades have seen a surge in the count. Until August 31, 2025, a total of 27 batters have scored 150 in successful chases in men’s ODIs. The birth and rising popularity of T20, superior bats, change in powerplay rules, two new balls have all contributed to this rise.
